Glossop Kinder Velo is a British Cycling and CTT affiliated cycling club based in Glossop, Derbyshire, in the High Peak, with members living in Glossop, Padfield, Hadfield, Simmondley, Charlesworth, Tintwistle, Hollingworth, Hyde, Mossley, New Mills, Oldham and Manchester. Some even live further afield. Glossop Kinder Velo was formed around ten years ago when members of two local clubs, Kinder Racing Team and Glossop Velo joined forces in 2000.
The core of the club’s activities are the weekly Sunday rides throughout the year, and Thursday rides in the Summer (make sure you join the Yahoo group to check the rides are on). The club organises regular Cycle Tours throughout the year. Club members also race in various disciplines: road, mountain biking, time trial, track and even triathlon; and as well as being regular cycle commuters, many also enjoy cycle touring.
The club have a regular meeting at 8.00pm (see the Yahoo Groups for further details) at the Prince of Wales, Milltown, Glossop (map) for updates, discussion and general banter. If you would like to meet us, pop along to the pub, or drop us a line first (email our secretary – see contacts). Meetings finish strictly at 9:30pm so there is ample chance for socialising (and a few drinks).
The club organises and promotes two major open events over the racing year: a 25 mile time trial in Cheshire and the legendary lung-busting 3 mile hill climb on the Glossop ascent of the Snake Pass. The club also runs a summer midweek time trial series and autumn hill climb series and the annual High Peak Hog Sportive. We also organize 3-4 Cycle Tours a year.
